Bailing Out Cities

Originally aired on February 16th, 2003

Our show this week features a discussion of the fiscal plight of the state's cities, many of which are awash in red ink. John Garner, Executive Director of The PA League of Cities and Municipalities, discusses the problems and emphasizes long-range solutions. He is joined by Kevin Joyce, from the Pa Restaurant Association, and John Milliron, a former State House Member who represents the PA Tavern Owners Association. Joyce and Milliron address the fiscal crisis in Pittsburgh and state their concern over two taxes proposed by Pittsburgh Mayor Tom Murphy and approved by City Council. One tax is a 10% tax on alcohol and the second is .05% payroll tax on employers. Both proposals must be approved by the State legislature. Program is hosted by Terry Madonna.
